What I’ve Been Up To – Fall 2017 Edition

What I’ve Been Up To – Fall 2017 Edition

I know I’ve been a bit quiet lately, as least as far as my essay writing is concerned. Not because I don’t have things to say, but because I had to start doing things that brought more joy to my life. We are living in fucked up times where white supremacy, which has always been the law of the land, is even more openly so. And it’s hard to watch. It’s hard to wake up and find out what new fucked up thing happened and then try to figure out how to navigate, fight, and survive it. Constantly thinking about it was breaking me.

So, I decided to do some different shit. I decided to keep living and to have some fun with it. I decided to work on projects that gave me joy. And it’s been work. A lot of unpaid work. I was fortunate in finding a photographer and producer who was willing to work with me on my quest to meet and learn about Black content creators. We go to cons to sit and chat with as many of the Black people who are creating new art as we can. We've met folks who create comics, books, videos, props, toys, just everything. Everything that gets kicked to the wayside as we work to survive a hostile society. I’m looking for the beauty in my world.

Fortunately, I didn’t have to look too hard because, despite what popular media likes to show, we out here and we doing the thing. We’re doing ALL the things.

All that is to say that I have new video content that I’ll be releasing the first and third Wednesday of each month. The first few videos will be of interviews I did at OnyxCon 2017, where I interviewed several creators on their projects. Take a look at Time Out with TaLynn Kel and if you like it, share it on your social media. People need to see what we’re out here doing.
