I Don’t Want To Willingly Live Among Monsters...
Today I saw a post berating liberals for never being able to unify to seize power. The author was praising the GOPs ability to set aside differences and unify during elections. She admired their ability to compartmentalize their personal views when making a power grab…cuz all that other stuff can be addressed later.
I read this after being told by some white guy that nobody fights for the right for people to abuse others. That we’re all working towards a better world and I was being ridiculous for saying that people do fight for power to abuse. Because I didn’t know or care about this joker, I opted not to explain myself to him. But he made an interesting, if incorrect assessment because people choose to ignore how language is manipulated to hide the impact of their actions. People choose to pretend there is a greater good to be won by ignoring the harm people do to support some greater ideology.
We see it with R Kelly and how the idea of community and support for Black men being deemed as more important than the Black women they abuse. We see it every time people question separating the artist from their art, as though one doesn’t directly inform the other. That’s how we have people still avidly supporting known abusers, pedophiles, rapists, and murderers like Woody Allen, Roman Polanski, Brett Kavanaugh, Chris Brown, Nas, Jeffrey Epstein, and vermilion vomit in chief. It’s why known sexual predator Bill Cosby only went to prison in 2018 after decades of known abuse. It’s why Harvey Weinstein is still not in prison, and won’t go to trial until 2019 despite tons of evidence of his abuses.
And while, yes, they all should be punished, I’ve seen people argue that Cosby and Kelly shouldn’t be punished unless Allen and Polanski are. I’ve heard people push for zero punishment if it isn’t applied to everyone…that if white people can get away with it then Black people should, too. Because that’s what equality and justice looks like to some people – the ability for everyone to oppress someone.
And I get it. White people gain and maintain power by being the most violently, nasty monsters on the block and they protect themselves at all cost. They will lie, cheat, steal, rape, torture, and murder millions of people to gain an advantage. We have hundreds of years of history documenting this reality, and yet they find ways to justify that action and paint it as heroic instead of inhumane. We are a nation of monsters and in order to be a notable part of this nation, you gotta be a monster, too.
Except I don’t want to willingly live among monsters.
I'm not invested in helping Black people act like white people. I'm not interested in putting liberals and progressives in the same exploitative positions of white men. I’m not interested in maintaining these shitty social hierarchies that victimize entirely too many people and ONE person is too many. I’m not willingly supporting people interested in becoming the new oppressor.
If being the latest incarnation of oppression is your end game, fuck you. You're a trash human and need to be disposed of with the colonizers cuz you've chosen to adopt their fucktastic mindset. You've become the thing we need to destroy and obliterate. You've forfeited your place in the new world and solidified your place in line for the guillotine. Congratulations and fuck you.
How you gonna advocate to enable abusers under the guise of cooperation? How are you, a full ass victim of racist, sexist, ableist, anti-LGBTWIA+ hierarchies gonna choose advocate for bullshit like this? You think you exempt? You think you special? You sound like them 53% of white women who are confused by rapists being appointed to the Supreme Court and the continued protections of white rapists and pedophiles. These motherfuckers been telling you who they are but you to busy rocking and promoting the solidarity t-shirt to notice your rights being stripped away. Like, how the fuck is that possible? How can you be aware of the history of capitalistic, patriarchal white supremacy in this country and still pretend that your status ain't precarious as fuck. They been openly grabbing people up off the street and at routine check-ins and shipping them out the country for the past two years. They been organizing sting operations that prey on people’s desire to help in order to deport them They been snatching kids away from their parents and abusing and traumatizing them in prisons. They been having toddlers appear in court alone for deportation hearings. This “border control” is literal human trafficking of children who can’t be accounted for or monitored. They been killing them while making plans for the next wave of people to ship out...if they survive long enough.
We don’t even like showing children being murdered in movies, but we got prisons full of them for trying to escape violence with their parents.
And Black people…we have been routinely terrorized to the point that we consider our lives to be an ongoing sacrifice where we’re just awaiting our personal turn. We are harassed, threatened, imprisoned and murdered for any number of mundane things, yet we keep striving for a better tomorrow. At least, some of us are. As I said before, some of us don’t want a better tomorrow; some just want an opportunity to be the oppressor. I'm not gonna cosign on bringing in another version of the same bullshit and fuck you for trying to shame anyone into it.
And let's be real clear...I know why you're okay with it. I know you think nothing can happen to you. I know you think that you are some kind of special version that gives off an aura of "I'm different" that will protect you from the ramifications of your choices. Except this ain't a new story either and we've seen what happens to people like you. We know what selling out costs us. We keep watching it happen. And I’ll be damned if I’m going to work towards the Black womxn version of this bullshit. Instead, how about you pay attention to this living history we’re in right now and realize that none of us are safe. But if you keep pretending you're special, you gonna learn. I'm not the one who's gonna teach you the lesson, but you sure as fuck are gonna learn it.
